Goat teapot maquettes

For this project I’m envisioning a teapot & cup set, where the cups change color or reveal an image when you pour hot liquid into the cups. Sourcing pigment to achieve this effect has already proven to be difficult and/or expensive - but this will be the last part of making the set.

I started off with making these two cups - quickly realizing after I finished them that there's no way these are comfortable to drink out of.

I cut out some paper to see the shape of the second round of cups, trying a pentagon shape, and already it looks more interesting and more functional.

The overall design is a reversal of this geometric cup design, the cup becoming wider at the bottom and the handle upside down.

Most mass manufactured ceramics have a slight curve to the lip of the mug / cup so that the water flows better into your mouth. I think I’ll have to make sure I implement this, because flipping the design like this might make drinking from it dribbly.

I made a similar paper layout for the teapot, making sure the volume for the teapot makes sense for two teacups.

I punch many dots into the body to hopefully make an interesting texture at the end of firing

Nearly fully dried maquette teapot and bigger teapot & cups.
