Organ Donation Memorial - Salmon Garden Diorama

Since my idea for the memorial is multiple artworks spread out throughout the space, I decided to make a scale model diorama of the garden space the memorial will be placed in. The most complicated part, besides making an art work that suits the hospital’s needs, is making one that fits in with the space they want it in. Most memorials, I think, are one big statue with foliage surrounding it. I wanted to keep as much of the nature in tact in this project.

I copied a drawing of the measurements we did of the space and drew it onto a wooden canvas to serve as the base. I used a twisted wire technique & painted it to make the trees.

I used mod podge and diorama grass / dirt to add details to trees and grass. Most of the diorama is recycled or things I already had, like the thin cardboard benches. The dark brown is where the pathway would be.

This is a shortened scale. It serves more like a placement guide rather than a precise 1:1; I think I will go back to the space in person and give a more accurate measurement to know how big each sculpture should be.
