Fire half-plates, animated cups

I didn’t take many pictures of much of this process, as I was rushing to do it from 10am til 4am. I had made a slab the previous day, with white triangles and thin layers of fire-colored clay slabs pushed in between them to try and make a fire pattern.

It turned out to be more of an organized chevron pattern than a chaotic fire pattern. I think it still suits the piece, as it’s overall cutesy, though initially I wanted there to be a dark contrast between the two plates as being obviously good & obviously evil looking.

I think the better idea is what turned out - much variation between the guinea pig and flowers (signifying life), vs the monotony and consistency of the other plates catching ash (death).

I drew on each side of the cups based on the animation cycle (shown above). I kept a few guidelines to keep the image roughly aligned, the bottom acting as a line as well.

Then I glazed it, with black underglaze for the goat, and sandy colored glaze to match the teapot, and clear glaze for the inside and lip.
